Is the Indian site about to be launched? Shopee has already started recruiting investors

There are reports that Shopee seems to be preparing to capture the Indian market.

Recently, Shopee launched a seller recruitment campaign to recruit sellers to sell on Shopee India. The video posted by Shopee on YouTube shows that Shopee is about to enter India and promises to provide sellers with free delivery and no commission fees.

The video calls on Indian sellers to register and explains that the registration requirements are very simple. Registration can be done by filling out an online form, and the video also leaves a contact email and phone number. In addition to the contact information, the registration form also asks the seller whether the product category has been sold on other platforms.

Currently, Shopee has launched a website for sellers in India. The company has also released detailed guidelines to help merchants register on the platform, comply with local tax guidelines and understand how to handle bulk orders. On the website, Shopee disclosed the name of the local Indian entity that operates the service in the country. Documents obtained from the Indian Ministry of Corporate Affairs confirmed that a company with such an ID had been established two months ago.

Shopee is “testing the waters” in India but has not finalized any launch plans, one of the people said . Analyst Bernstein expects Shopee to launch its India business next month.

Currently , Shopee has opened sites in Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. In addition, in recent years, Shopee has also been exploring the Latin American market and has opened sites in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Chile. Now, Shopee plans to enter India, and its business territory will be further expanded.

Analyst Bernstein said that India's e-commerce market is expected to reach $133 billion by 2025, up from $24 billion in 2018. Although the Indian market has certain development prospects, the competition is also fierce. Flipkart and Amazon currently dominate the Indian e-commerce market.

We can wait and see whether Shopee can grab a certain market share. Sellers interested in the Indian market can also consider whether to enter the market after sufficient investigation.
