Ningbo Zhoushan Port Meishan International Container Terminal suspended all container pick-up services at 3:30 am on the 11th of this month due to the epidemic . Many sellers' goods were affected. After the news was released, industry insiders expressed some panic, worrying whether the same crisis of port congestion and cargo accumulation would occur again in various places. However, some shipping insiders initially judged that the impact this time might be smaller than the Yantian Port incident.

According to the latest news, after strictly implementing the epidemic prevention and control policies, the port area will continue to operate the import of ships that are already in port and waiting for ships on the 18th of this month . After the blockade is lifted on the 25th, the container pick-up service will be restored in an orderly manner. Meishan will be fully restored on September 1st.

The suspension of service at Meishan Port has had a significant impact on the ships and other ports that were originally scheduled to arrive at the port. After learning the news, Maersk notified customers that the six ships on the Asia and South America routes that were originally scheduled to dock at Meishan Terminal would no longer rely on Ningbo Port, and suggested that customers reschedule their plans. At the same time, according to the report of the Maritime Service Network, the average number of calls to Ningbo Port per week during this period has dropped by 70%. The number of containers this week has also dropped from 200 to less than 60.

According to the container transportation data in 2020, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is the third busiest port in the world and the second busiest port in China. Meishan Port, as one of the important port areas of Zhoushan Port, accounts for 20% of the total volume. According to the latest data released by Zhoushan Port Group, the container throughput this year reached 20 million TEUs, one month earlier than last year. From January to July, the cargo throughput reached 718 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%.

Except for Meishan Port, all other port areas of Zhoushan Port remain normal. Under the epidemic situation, everyone needs to wait patiently, and Meishan Port will gradually return to normal soon.
