Etsy has released its 2021 Holiday Trends Report for sellers on the platform .

Etsy said that sellers can find product selection trends in this report to help them optimize their stores for the upcoming holiday shopping season . Although the report is specifically for Etsy sellers, sellers on other platforms also learned some product selection trends, inspiration and tips from it .

Holiday shopping themes: reunion, natural aesthetics, nostalgia

“Themes related to reunion will be key this holiday season,” Etsy said in the report, “as people look forward to seeing friends and family, even for those who can’t be together in person.” Gifts that express that sentiment will therefore be popular.

People have been seeking peace and escape in the wild over the past year, pursuing a natural and rural aesthetic. People will decorate their homes with elements such as branches, dried flowers, and leaves. Dried flowers and wreaths are the main choice, especially in Germany. Products with mushroom and woodland creature motifs will be more successful.

Nostalgia is a common theme during the holiday season, and Etsy expects this year to be no different, with nostalgic-themed decor making shoppers feel more comfortable.

Etsy said home and living items are an important category for gifting. "Aprons" and "Christmas decorations" were popular search terms among male shoppers last holiday shopping season. In the UK, Christmas Eve gift boxes and Christmas cookies were in high demand; Christmas-themed decorations were popular among shoppers in France.

The comfort of clothing is still an important factor for consumers, and consumers pay more attention to tops. In the second quarter of this year, the search volume for comfortable dresses on Etsy increased by 59% year-on-year; the search volume for women's tops increased by 45% year-on-year; and the search volume for party dresses increased by 153% year-on-year.

The holidays are prime time for proposals, especially since many weddings were put on hold last year. Personalized pieces, vintage rings, and trendy rings are all options to consider. In the second quarter of this year, searches for black wedding dresses increased 68% year-on-year .

Greeting cards have become more popular over the past year, with people using them to connect with people they can’t see in person, share updates and express emotions. Greeting cards are particularly in demand in the UK, with sales tending to soar in December. Etsy searches for invitations grew 117% year-over-year in the second quarter.

Pet birthday party supplies are also an important direction. Search volume for dog birthday party items on Etsy increased 57% year-on-year in the second quarter.
