Last year, European e-commerce developed rapidly, with Spain's growth rate being particularly significant.
According to statistics, in 2020, the sales of small and medium-sized sellers in Spain on Amazon exceeded 650 million euros, a year-on-year increase of 30%. The cumulative sales of more than 60 million products exceeded 60 million. On average, 100 products are sold every minute, which is already a considerable sales volume.
As sales increase, logistics levels must also keep pace. Last year, the logistics sales of Spanish FBA warehouses reached 580 million euros, a year-on-year increase of 75.2%. Amazon also plans to expand local logistics centers and increase investment in Spain.
Judging from local shopping preferences, Amazon's top five best-selling categories in Spain are clothing, household goods, personal care, toys and electronic devices.
Online clothing was the category with the largest growth last year, with sales exceeding 4.3 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 50%. Moreover, most of the hot-selling clothing are basic items, such as shorts, underwear socks and basic T-shirts, which basically do not need to be tried on, the unit price is also cheap, and buyers are more inclined to buy in large quantities. If you are not satisfied but are too lazy to return the goods, the loss will be relatively small. From this point of view, the psychology of consumers around the world is similar.
Moreover, according to the latest survey, from July to September this year, Spanish buyers' purchasing desire was more inclined towards sportswear (21.9%), travel (21.4%), technology products (19.2%), household items (15.9%), and basic household appliances (15.4%).
Compared with 2020, Spanish buyers' consumption intention for smartphones has greatly decreased, and sportswear may become the hottest-selling category this summer. Sellers can also use this as a reference for product selection in Spain.
Although 80% of Spanish buyers said that they initially chose online shopping due to the impact of the epidemic, 90% of these new users indicated that they would continue to use e-commerce platforms to shop in the future. The number of people who consume purely offline is decreasing, and most consumers prefer online or a combination of online and offline models. 50% of consumers claim that they shop online at least once a week.
All signs indicate that e-commerce in Spain is still in a growth stage.
