24% of merchants are exploring new technologies for the next generation of mobile e-commerce

Judging from the development trend of global e-commerce, mobile devices have become the most important contact platform between merchants and consumers.

According to the Future of Mobile Commerce report published by Corra in partnership with Klarna and Yotpo , Progressive Web Apps ( PWAs ) are expected to grow rapidly in the near future, with 24% of merchants exploring this new web development approach.

The research includes findings from a survey of 268 online retailers and wholesalers, as well as a variety of qualitative and quantitative insights gathered by the e-commerce agency and its partners.

PWA has the advantages of faster and smoother browsing experience , no need to download APP , etc. As the next development of e-commerce, PWA combines traditional website functions with the best features of mobile applications.

Unlike native apps, they are built from a single code base and do not need to be downloaded from a store. When visitors browse the online experience, they will receive a simple prompt to add the PWA site to their home screen. Once they accept, they can access the PWA just like a native application.

58% of respondents said they were very familiar with PWAs , and 24% said they had explored or considered implementing a PWA. When asked to identify the single most important PWA feature, the majority of respondents said the ability to allow users to browse offline.

Michael Harvey, chief strategy officer at Corra, added : “There’s no doubt that what started as a small number of early adopters has now become a big trend. While PWAs may seem like a recent innovation, they actually represent a proven way to build modern websites.”

At present, the convenience of online shopping through mobile devices is increasingly loved and accepted by consumers. In short, with the continuous penetration and development of mobile devices, consumers use mobile phones more frequently . Therefore, consumers' expectations and demands when shopping through mobile devices are also increasing . Merchants must focus on constantly updating and investing in new technologies to meet the ever-changing needs of consumers .
