The cargo volume at Suifenhe Port on the China-Russia border will return to pre-epidemic levels

On March 31 , the Russian Commercial Representative Office in China stated that China's Suifenhe Port on the Russian-China border is preparing to restore the port's cargo volume to pre-epidemic levels.

At present , an average of 48 vehicles pass through the Pogranichny -Suifenhe car port every day, and on some days, 60 vehicles pass through every day . This is the same as the pre-epidemic level. At the Grodekovo -Suifenhe railway port, China is ready to allow up to 14 trains in one direction (a total of 28 trains).

During the 2020 epidemic, truck congestion often occurred at the China-Russia border checkpoint. The main reason for the congestion was that for the need of epidemic prevention, China strictly inspected incoming trucks, and even only allowed two trucks to pass every hour. Moreover, after a Russian truck driver was diagnosed with the new coronavirus in Suifenhe in mid- May , China increased its quarantine efforts, and the congestion worsened.

The situation did not improve until December , and trucks once again queued up at the border checkpoint between Primorsky Krai and China, with the total number of trucks reaching 388. In December, several checkpoints were temporarily closed for disinfection.

The main reason was that the epidemic situation in Russia was getting worse at that time , and all ports on the border between China and Russia implemented strict epidemic prevention and control measures, and port access was restricted . However, the situation at railway ports was much better than that at road ports. Therefore, land, air and sea transportation, which were subject to greater restrictions, also transferred part of their transportation tasks to railway transportation.

Statistics show that the bilateral trade volume between China and Russia has exceeded 100 billion US dollars for three consecutive years, and China has been Russia's largest trading partner for 11 consecutive years. Suifenhe, Heihe and other cities have also established comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zones for Russia. By the end of last year, the sales of Heihe e-commerce company "Epinduo" were nearly 70 million yuan.

The "stay-at-home economy" brought about by the epidemic has really boosted the sales of electronic products in Russia. In addition, Chinese-made smartphones are widely praised in the Russian market , and other Chinese electronic products exports to Russia have also achieved rapid growth, with laptop and tablet exports increasing by 39% and 29% respectively. With the application of digital technology in epidemic prevention work in various countries, the frequency of use of electronic products has increased. It can be said that there is still much room for development in the Russian electronic products market.

In addition, most of China's China-Europe trains transit through Russia . The Russian Railway Logistics Company announced that the volume of container railway transit transportation from China to the EU via Russia increased by 55% in 2020. In order to further promote cross-border trade between China and Russia, it is inevitable that Suifenhe Port is preparing to restore the port's cargo volume to the pre-epidemic level . At the same time, it can also promote the development of cross-border trade in Suifenhe area.
