As the gardening season arrives, Russian e-commerce WB product sales soar 500% year-on-year

As the gardening season arrives, Russian e-commerce WB product sales soar 500% year-on-year

Since the outbreak, working and studying at home has become the norm for many people. At present, many people are still in this state. As people spend more time at home, their demand for products has also changed. The demand for home clothes, toys, kitchen supplies, etc. has increased. With the arrival of spring and summer, gardening products will also usher in a peak in demand.

Due to the possibility of continued remote work and study, Russians will spend more time in their family homes and villas this year. According to data from Wildberries (hereinafter referred to as "WB"), the largest e-commerce platform in Russia, in the first three weeks of March this year, the overall sales of WB's horticultural products increased by 500% compared with the same period last year.

If you want to do your work well, you must first sharpen your tools. WB staff said that for the upcoming summer, Russia has begun to buy more expensive equipment and tools to improve the land. In March this year, the average order revenue of the gardening machinery category on WB increased by 24% year-on-year to 2,957 rubles (about 255 yuan); the average order revenue of the gardening tool category increased by 38% year-on-year to 822 rubles (about 71 yuan).

Among them, the sales of tillers topped the sales list, with sales increasing 18 times year-on-year, followed by lawn mowers, weed cutters, garden sprayers and electric saws, with sales increasing 3 times and 2 times year-on-year respectively.

With the tools, of course, we need various plant, flower and vegetable seeds . WB data shows that Russians seem to like growing vegetables more. Compared with the spring of 2020, Russians are more enthusiastic about buying seeds this year.

According to WB data, WB's seed sales increased by 8.3 times year-on -year. Among them, the most popular is tomato seeds , which account for 31% of the sales share of all seeds, and its share has increased by 2 times throughout the year. At the same time, the sales of tomato seeds increased by 15 times.

In contrast, cucumber seeds seem to have lost the "favor" of the Russians. Although their sales volume has increased fivefold, their sales share has dropped from 22% in 2020 to 16% this year.

In addition, some plant seeds suitable for planting on balconies are also very popular . For example , the sales of mini tomatoes soared 33 times compared with last year, and the sales of flower seeds increased 18 times. At the same time, the sales of seedling boxes increased 21 times year-on-year, various facilities for building greenhouses increased 13 times year-on-year, and fertilizers and soils increased 7 times year-on-year.
