Data recently released by Russian e-commerce platform Wildberries (hereinafter referred to as "WB") showed that in February this year, sales of sellers on the platform increased by 107% year-on-year to 30.6 billion rubles (about 2.7 billion yuan).
The number of sellers on the WB platform has been rising since last year. So far, the total number of sellers selling products through WB has exceeded 120,000, which is five times that of February last year. WB said that 75%-80% of these sellers are small and medium-sized enterprises, and the rest are individual sellers.
Vyacheslav Ivashchenko , WB development director , said: "We are very happy to see that there are more and more small and medium-sized business representatives and individual sellers on the WB platform. In February this year, the number of individual sellers on WB exceeded 10,000, and their sales have grown to 168.3 million rubles (about 14.85 million yuan). "
Vyacheslav said that representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises and individual sellers sell their own handmade clothing, accessories, souvenirs, household items and jewelry through WB, and these products are very popular with WB consumers. In February this year, the sales of these products increased by 143% year-on-year.
The most popular products for SMB sellers were: food (sales increased by 216%), tableware and kitchen equipment (up 166%), home furnishings (up 135%), accessories (up 92%), and clothing (up 72%).
From a regional perspective, sellers in Buryatia saw the fastest sales growth, up 23 times year-on-year, followed by Murmansk, Vologda, Yakutia and Kaliningrad, with sales increasing 9 times, 7 times, 6 times and 5 times respectively.
Meanwhile, the hot sellers in Buryatia are jewellery, in Murmansk – kitchen equipment and household items, in Vologda – baby clothes and household items, in Yakutia – toy cars, and in Kaliningrad – aromatherapy and home fragrances.
Throughout February and early March, Russia has Valentine's Day, Men's Day and Maslenitsa . Before the arrival of these three holidays, the demand for products such as jewelry, accessories, tableware, kitchen equipment and household items will increase.
Especially during Maslenitsa, Russians traditionally make pancakes to celebrate the festival. WB data shows that in February and early March, the platform's sales of electric baking pans increased by 47%, and sales of blenders increased by 86%. The sales of ordinary frying pans, cooking spoons and kitchen knives also increased significantly compared with the same period last year.
In short, holiday sales are a very important part. Sellers should check the calendar more often, understand local holiday consumption habits, and make preparations in advance. Russia E-commerce Wildberries |
