Recently, returns management company Cycleon conducted a survey of more than 2,600 online fashion shoppers in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and Sweden , and came up with a survey report on online fashion shoppers in Europe and the United States.
The findings show that fashion items bought online are often returned at a higher rate than those bought in stores . Cycleon calculated that around three in 10 fashion items bought online are returned by consumers . And US shoppers are more likely to return fashion items bought online than European shoppers.
More than a third ( 34% ) of US shoppers say they frequently return fashion items they buy online , compared to just 20% of European shoppers , and US consumers are more willing to pay extra for returns.
Driven by a surge in e-commerce return rates, many brands are working to explore more environmentally sustainable shipping options to offset the negative impact of returns, and American shoppers are more willing to pass on the costs of these efforts to themselves.
Nearly two-thirds (64%) of US consumers say they would be willing to pay extra for a green return method when returning a package , compared to less than half ( 47% ) of European shoppers .
Americans and Europeans also differ in the way they buy fashion products. American consumers are more likely to accept the "try before you buy" online shopping method. 44% of American online shoppers said they would buy multiple sizes of the same item to try on at home, while the proportion among European shoppers was 41% . At the same time, American consumers are also more likely to buy different colors of the same item to try on. This is also one of the reasons why the return rate of American online fashion shoppers is relatively high.
Additionally, US shoppers are almost twice as likely to return online fashion items they’ve already worn, with 28% of US shoppers admitting this, compared to 16% of European shoppers. Fashion return the goods |
