With $14.1 billion in revenue and 31.2 million active customers, Wayfair leads the home furnishing market

In 2020, the epidemic changed consumer purchasing behavior , and online sales of furniture, appliances and home decoration products surged , and related retailers achieved impressive results during this period .

 

Recently, Wayfair, the largest home furnishing e-commerce platform in the United States , reported its fourth-quarter and full-year 2020 results, and said it achieved steady growth.

 

Full-year revenue: $14.1 billion

 

In 2020, Wayfair's total revenue was $14.1 billion, an increase of $5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 55.0%. Among them, the revenue in the United States was $11.9 billion, an increase of $4.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 53.3%; the international revenue was $2.2 billion, an increase of $900 million, a year-on-year increase of 64.8%.

 

In the fourth quarter, Wayfair's total revenue was $3.7 billion , an increase of $1.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 44.9%. Among them, the US revenue was $3 billion , an increase of $900 million, a year-on-year increase of 40.1%. International revenue was $671.8 million, a year-on-year increase of $278.2 million, an increase of 70.7%.

 

"Wayfair once again delivered strong fourth quarter results as online shopping becomes more entrenched and consumer demand for home products remains strong," said Niraj Shah, Wayfair CEO, co-founder and co-chairman. "Wayfair is leveraging these tailwinds to deliver a truly differentiated experience for both customers and suppliers."

 

The number of active customers reached 31.2 million

 

As of December 31, 2020, Wayfair had 31.2 million active customers , a year-on-year increase of 53.7%. In the fourth quarter, Wayfair's repeat customers placed a total of 11.9 million orders, a year-on-year increase of 55.6%. In addition, repeat customer orders accounted for 72.5% of total orders , while in the fourth quarter of 2019, this proportion was 68.6%.

 

In the fourth quarter of 2020, Wayfair delivered 16.5 million orders, a year-over-year increase of 47.1%, but the average order value fell slightly to $223 from $226 in the fourth quarter of 2019.

 

In addition to this, Wayfair also reported that in the fourth quarter of 2020, total orders placed via mobile devices accounted for 59.9%, compared to 54.8% in the fourth quarter of 2019.

 

It can be seen that Wayfair 's repeat customers have brought it huge profits, and the number of consumers shopping using mobile devices is gradually increasing.

 

Looking ahead, Wayfair said growth areas include expanding its specialty business in North America and growing its presence in home appliances by adding brands to its site.
