The first China-Europe freight train from Chengdu to St. Petersburg, Russia, connects 59 cities abroad

According to Xinhua News Agency, on February 21, the first China-Europe freight train from Chengdu to St. Petersburg, Russia, started operation. The train was loaded with supporting materials for the construction of major "Belt and Road" projects and is expected to arrive in St. Petersburg in 13 days.

This is the 59th overseas stop for Chengdu's international train expansion . In recent years, Chengdu has been leveraging its network advantages as an international supply chain comprehensive solution center to continuously expand its overseas stops. Up to now, Chengdu International Railway Port has built 7 international railway channels and 5 international railway-sea transport channels, connecting 59 overseas cities and 20 domestic cities.

Around the world, labor shortages and traffic jams during the COVID-19 pandemic have prolonged port waiting times, leading to delays in the return of empty containers. At the same time, tighter equipment supply and inefficient quarantine of dock workers have caused container shipping companies to reschedule freight routes and reduce ports of call, which has pushed up freight rates and increased profits for the industry, making the maritime logistics market even crazier.

In addition, consumers who are isolated and blocked due to the epidemic have also seen a surge in demand for commodities such as sports equipment. The logistics industry will continue to face a severe test in the coming period. Against this background, the influence of China-Europe railways will naturally increase.

" Affected by the epidemic, it takes one to two months for customers' goods to be shipped by sea. By shipping through the China-Europe Express, it can reach the destination in about 10 days , saving customers time in transit." Wang Weikun, deputy general manager of Chengdu International Express Co., Ltd., said, "The launch of the St. Petersburg train is a successful practice of combining the China-Europe Express channel with the key projects of the 'Belt and Road' initiative."

It is reported that the special train is loaded with supporting materials for the construction of the Sinochem Seventh Construction Baltic Gas Chemical Complex ( GCC) project, with a contract value of nearly 100 billion yuan. It is the world's largest ethylene integration project, not only a major "Belt and Road" project of Sinochem Seventh Construction, but also of great significance to China's international cooperation in overseas projects.
