Socialmediatoday reports that despite the rise of audio live streaming such as Clubhouse, Instagram is still working tirelessly to catch up with the live streaming trend.
According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, the company plans to launch the IG Live live broadcast feature that supports up to four people in the coming weeks . Mosseri made the announcement during an appearance on her talk show A Little Late . She said: “We’ve been working on this multi-person live streaming feature for a while now and we’re really excited that we’ve finally made it . ”
Instagram had already started testing this feature in India in December last year . With the rise of online live streaming activities in the Indian market , Instagram hopes to seize the live streaming market while the Indian government bans TikTok . According to data provided by mysmartprice, the number of Instagram live views in the Indian market increased by more than 60% throughout 2020. The newly developed multi-person live broadcast function provides another way to maximize the Indian market's interest in live events.
It is worth mentioning that Instagram has been working on this project quietly for a year. Mosseri revealed in March 2020 that they hope to attract more audiences in live events : "Currently Instagram only supports live broadcasts between two people, but we are studying whether we can expand the number of people who can be connected at a time."
