Fakespot launches 'Fakespot Guard' to protect consumers from Shopify fraud

According to globenewswire , consumer protection software company Fakespot launched Fakespot Guard , a fake information detection program for Shopify independent stores, on February 17 to mark potential problems on Shopify stores to protect consumers from being deceived by false information in stores.

Previously, Fakespot found in a survey of more than 124,000 Shopify websites that nearly 21% (26,000) of the stores were engaged in some form of fraud , such as selling counterfeit products, leaking customer privacy, or purchasing fake reviews. And as the usage of Shopify has surged with the rapid development of e-commerce during the epidemic, it is necessary for Fakespot to now launch advanced e-commerce fraud protection for Shopify.

Fakespot Guard uses AI and proprietary algorithms to quickly analyze data related to a website (including reviews and e-commerce data) to assess the trustworthiness of the website and come to one of four levels of conclusion:

Officially recognized: no issues were found to indicate fraudulent activity;

New Sellers: Newly launched websites that do not have sufficient data to prove they have reached the warning level;

Potentially problematic: reported fraudulent behavior or actions similar to detected fraudulent sites;

Warning: Detects signs of fraudulent e-commerce sites, such as bad customer reports and scam transaction data.

By providing this type of information, Fakespot can help consumers avoid unreliable products and sellers, and use more accurate information to help them get the products they want without having to worry about the wrong goods or non-delivery, thus saving worry, time and money.

Saoud Khalifah, founder and CEO of Fakespot , said Shopify has lowered the barrier to entry for creating an independent website store, which is great for legitimate businesses, but it also gives fraudsters access to a sophisticated set of tools to steal sensitive personal information or financial data and deceive shoppers with low-quality counterfeit products.

In addition to Shopify , Fakespot has also helped improve transparency on sites like Amazon, Best Buy , eBay , Sephora, and Walmart. Consumers can choose to apply Fakespot 's free detection plug-in to Google Chrome in the App Store

At the same time, helping consumers and merchants shop and conduct business on safe e-commerce platforms is an important goal of Fakespot . Sellers themselves must also pay attention to compliance operations and jointly create a good e-commerce development environment.
