YouTube updates sports section, expands connected TV ad options

YouTube is a video sharing platform owned by Google, with a huge number of videos and rich variety.

 

Recently, YouTube announced that it has revamped its sports channel, bringing all sports content together in one column while providing video viewers with an all-encompassing immersive content platform. In addition, YouTube has also expanded its online TV advertising business to help sports brands reach a wider fan base.

The reason why YouTube revamped its sports channel may be closely related to the popularity of sports-related videos on the YouTube platform.

 

Google data shows that YouTube has become the preferred platform for sports fans to watch sports content. According to YouTube statistics, during the 2020 US epidemic, the playback time of YouTube sports videos (excluding live content) on TV screens increased by more than 65%.

 

YouTube said fans can find a range of the latest game highlights, sports news and local popular videos on the new sports channel, ensuring that fans around the world can see the content they want to watch most, including the popular sports seasons including the NFL , LaLiga , MLB , NBA , WWE and AFC Championship.

As a result, YouTube has expanded its advertising options for connected TV ( CTV ) and added TV versions of its sports channels as part of YouTube Select , its advertiser services platform .



YouTube said: " Due to the strong market response to YouTube CTV products in the United States , we are expanding it to new markets including Australia, Canada, India, and Japan, and will further expand to other markets in 2021."



As more and more people use their home TVs to watch YouTube videos, YouTube 's TV Sports Channel can provide brands and sellers with more efficient and targeted TV advertising options, thereby "targeting" more specific audiences.
