Jumbotail is an online grocery marketplace that provides a full-stack grocery delivery service. It offers a wide range of products including daily necessities, spices, dry fruits, packaged foods and other fast-moving consumer goods.

About Jumbotail

• Jumbotail was founded by Stanford alumni Karthik Venkateswaran and Ashish Jhina in November 2015. The company provides full-stack services such as direct store delivery and payment collection for local grocery stores. It also has a fintech platform that provides payment solutions for customers and connects investors and borrowers of working capital loans.

• Jumbotail’s mobile app is available in four languages: Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and English. Traders, manufacturers and brands can list their products on the platform and users can choose to buy directly.

Founding Background

Ashish is a farmer by profession and worked on his family farm for a year before starting Jumbotail. He graduated from IIT Delhi and worked for BCG for a while after getting his MBA from Stanford. Like Karthik, Ashish also saw a gap in the market supply chain and came to the same conclusion as Karthik. After graduating from Stanford, Karthik worked at eBay for a while before joining Flipkart. There, he learned the importance of controlling the entire end. Finally, in 2014, the two of them started to implement their ideas and founded Jumbotail.

Operational Model

Jumbotail mainly follows three models: store inventory, seller store inventory and order pickup service.

Inventory Management

Currently, Jumbotail has two logistics centers in Tumkuru and eight distribution centers outside Bangalore. In terms of logistics, the platform cooperates with trucks through monthly leasing, and currently has a total of 110 transport trucks. 95% of the platform's customers are grocery stores, and the rest are hotels and hostels attracted by the platform's convenient conditions.

Financing

-In July 2016, Jumbotail received $2 million in its first round of external financing.

-In July 2017, Jumbotail received $8.5 million in Series A funding from Kalaari Capital Advisors and existing investor Nexus India Capital Advisors.

-In June 2019, Jumbotail received Rs 900 million in Series B funding from Kalaari Capital, Heron Rock (lead investor) and Capria Fund.
