About M.A.C.

• M·A·C and Make-up Art Cosmetics began in Toronto, Canada. Frank Toskan, a makeup artist and photographer, and Frank Angelo, who ran a salon, were troubled by the lack of makeup products suitable for photography, so they decided to create their own. At first, they made cosmetics in their kitchen at home and sold them directly in the salon to makeup artists, models and photographers. Soon, stylists and fashion editors joined the action. With the great success of magazine sponsorship and word-of-mouth popularity, the duo opened their counter in Toronto in March 1984.
• Their approach was very unique and practical, like putting makeup in black jars instead of boxes. While other brands were still focusing on skincare, M.A.C chose to develop its own control over extreme colors. The first brand in the industry to let makeup artists stand at the counter. The most popular product was a rich matte red lipstick, thanks to a photo of Madonna who was quickly popular at the time, and then she wore a M.A.C T-shirt.
