Recently, Google Trends released the most popular search terms that British people are most interested in in 2023. For example, King Charles' coronation, such as ChatGPT.

The most eye-catching one among them is Temu. Data shows that as of December 21, the search volume of Temu has increased by 2850% compared with last year, and the search volume growth rate is even higher than that of ChatGPT (2700%), which has been very popular this year.

According to foreign media reports, Temu has now become the most downloaded shopping application in the UK market, with an estimated 9 million users.

Temu sells everything from clothing to electronics, allowing British consumers to buy goods directly from Chinese manufacturers without going through middlemen. Perhaps thanks to this, although it was only launched in the UK in April this year, Temu has quickly established a foothold in this market.

According to data previously released by Google Search and GWSMagnify, Temu's daily active users in the UK reached 5.4 million in October alone, a 20% increase from July. The total daily usage time of users reached 120 million minutes, while Amazon's was 79 million minutes. In terms of the average user usage time, Amazon users reached 8.7 minutes, while Temu users reached 22.4 minutes, more than twice that of Amazon.

Data recently released by Similarweb also showed that the Temu app is distributed on 25% of Android devices in the UK, with an average monthly download volume of more than 1.2 million times, and each user maintains an average session frequency of 2.4 times per month (data from September 23 to November 23).

Although the brand strength is still not as strong as that of Amazon and eBay, Temu's direct visits are higher than those of British established companies Currys and John Lewis. In terms of user groups, compared with other shopping programs in the UK, Temu's users tend to be older women who pay more attention to consumption costs.

It is worth noting that Temu has not yet established its own customer base. Most users are accustomed to using other platforms such as Amazon, eBay and Argos at the same time. The user overlap with Amazon reaches 89%, the user overlap with eBay is 69%, and the user overlap with Argos reaches 33%.

In addition to Temu, Vinted, Europe's largest online market, has also become a hot search term in the UK this year, with a year-on-year increase of 90%. It is reported that the number of registered members of Vinted in the UK has increased from 1.2 million in 2021 to more than 8 million now.
