Temu fails to capture the hearts of American teenagers, Amazon is still the most popular

Amazon still holds an unshakable position in the hearts of Generation Z consumers in the United States , according to a new survey, although many investors have recently been worried that the threat from Temu may steal a lot of Amazon's customers .

 

According to a survey by Piper Sandler, an American research organization , Amazon is the favorite shopping website for 59% of American teenagers.

 

The agency contacted more than 9,000 teens for its recently released Teen Inventory Report , which showed Amazon's score was up from 57% in the spring and 52% last fall .

 

In addition, second only to Amazon is fast fashion giant Shein , which ranks second and is the favorite shopping platform of 7% of the surveyed teenagers . Nike ranks third . It is worth noting that Temu, a subsidiary of Pinduoduo Holdings , appeared in this survey for the first time .

 


Only 1% of teens named Temu as their favorite retailer , indicating that Amazon is still far ahead among teens , the Piper Sandler report said.

 

Since Temu entered the US market, many investors have paid attention to this "spoiler", and some even pessimistically believe that Amazon's stock price will be greatly affected by Temu.

 

Temu, which once led the list of most downloaded shopping apps in the U.S., has amassed more than 100 million downloads since its launch a year ago, according to reports from research firms SensorTower and Evercore.

 

Additionally, Amazon has refused to compare prices with Temu, which is inconsistent with the company's strategy of using pricing tools to ensure it offers the lowest prices, according to the Wall Street Journal .

 

The results show that the Temu platform is still in its “early stages of development,” Piper Sandler analyst Thomas Champion wrote in a follow-up report to the survey.

 

In fact, in addition to Temu, TikTok is also seen as one of Amazon's future strong competitors. Another survey by Piper Sandler found that 38% of American teenagers listed TikTok as the most popular social media app.

 

However, from the perspective of the general public, the consumption capacity of teenagers is much weaker than that of older adults. Therefore, the recognition of e-commerce platforms by this group will not have a particularly large impact on the platform's revenue or future development in the short term.
