The U.S. Consumer Product Commission recently announced the recall of a popular children's stainless steel cup on Amazon.
The cups were sold on Amazon and Cupkin.com from 2018 until earlier this year . More than 345,000 of the products are being recalled.
The cups belong to Soojimus , and the recalled model is Cupkin , with specifications of 8 ounces and 12 ounces. The word Cupkin is printed on the wall of these cups .
The committee reminds consumers who have purchased the cup to stop using it immediately and contact Soojimus for a full refund. So far, no illness or injury reports have been received due to the cup. According to Cupkin , the recalled cups have a double-layer stainless steel structure, so the liquid in the cup will not come into contact with the lead element, but if the bottom of the cup is not handled properly, there is a risk of lead exposure. In addition, Cupkin stated in its recall response that the presence of lead was not detected during the initial development of the product.
Cupkin also wrote in the statement that when the company initially developed these cups, it confirmed with its manufacturing partners several times that no lead was used in any part of the production, and that they were also tested by two independent third-party laboratories certified by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Soojimus and Amazon will contact all known purchasers of the cups directly. Consumers can provide photos of the damaged cups and fill out a form on the Cupkin website to receive a refund.
Max Kang, one of Cupkin's co-founders , said in an electronic statement to the media that their manufacturer initially stated that no lead was used in the glass beads in the cups , and that the glass beads were placed at the bottom of the product for vacuum sealing. But he said the manufacturer later admitted the mistake .
Officials at the U.S. Consumer Products Commission insist there is no safe level of lead because the substance can harm young children's brain development . Amazon recall USA |
