Buy now, pay later orders increased! Accounted for 13% of Amazon UK PD first day orders

According to data released by Adobe Analytics, on the first day of Amazon's big promotion, sales on the UK site increased slightly compared to last year.

Specifically, Amazon UK’s sales on the first day of Prime Day were 581 million pounds, an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period last year.

Adobe Analytics previously predicted that total sales on the UK site for Prime Day would reach 1.2 billion pounds , nearly twice the normal consumption level ( 92%).

At present, Prime Day 's influence in the UK is far lower than that in the US market. According to Adobe data, the US Prime Day sales reached $6.4 billion on the first day alone. Nevertheless, this will be the largest Prime Day in the UK so far .

Adobe also saw a 20% increase in the number of shoppers using buy now pay later ( BNPL ). Of all orders on the first day of PD , approximately 13% were completed through BNPL platforms , with sales reaching £89.5 million.

Vivek Pandy, principal analyst at Adobe Digital Insights, believes that as inflation and interest rates continue to put pressure on consumer spending, large discount events like Prime Day are increasingly valued by consumers.

Vivek Pandy said Adobe expects 2023 to be a record year for Prime Day sales, and more and more people will use "buy now, pay later" to spread the cost of shopping.

Despite the expected sales boost from Prime Day , Amazon’s UK mobile app has lost an average of 1 million daily users since the start of the year, according to GWS , as new competitors such as SHEIN and Temu grow rapidly .

In addition, GlobalData pointed out that since many retailers have launched a large number of discount advertisements and activities, Amazon needs to offer larger discounts during this year's Prime Day to attract more consumers to maintain its sales growth.
