Etsy recently revealed the latest news about its new feature, which it first began testing in June and officially launched in early August: consumers can now upload videos to review products.
Etsy says the feature will give consumers more confidence when shopping.
In mid-August, Etsy announced to all users that consumers using the iOS version of the Etsy app can now leave video reviews for products they have purchased.
This week, Etsy released a new announcement that answered some of the questions that users are most concerned about, one of which is: If a seller reports a "illegal" video review to the platform, how long will it take for the platform to respond?
"While our policy states that flagged photos or videos will be reviewed within 7-10 days, our priority is to review merchant reports as quickly as possible — typically within 24 hours," Etsy said.
From January to August 2022, less than 1 in every 500 video comments was flagged for review, accounting for about 0.18% of the total.
However, some sellers expressed dissatisfaction with this new feature. One seller uploaded a video on Youtube complaining that this new feature deprived sellers of the right to "hide" certain product reviews and believed that the platform introduced a feature that sellers did not welcome.
On Tuesday, Etsy responded to the issue: "We are improving our policies and processes for sellers to flag video and photo reviews to increase transparency for buyers. We will continue to remove reviews that violate our policies, but will not otherwise remove or hide reviews."
“Not only is this an industry-wide trend, but we also think it will increase transparency and trust in the Etsy marketplace and sellers’ stores. If you are concerned that a review you have posted violates Etsy’s policies, please report it to us.”
It is not difficult to see that Etsy launched this new feature to provide consumers with a better shopping experience. However, this may cause trouble to sellers to a certain extent.
