Increased by 69%, with great demand for same-day delivery in the Netherlands

Dutch parcel deliveries saw strong growth in orders last year as Dutch consumers increasingly expect their online purchases to be delivered quickly , with demand for same-day delivery rising by no less than 69% in 2021 .

 

Parcel delivery providers are increasingly offering same-day delivery as a premium service. Several couriers in the Netherlands offer same-day delivery , such as Trunkrs and Instabox. The recently released Sendcloud Shipping Index also shows that Dutch consumers are increasingly demanding fast delivery when placing orders in online stores.

 

According to earlier research from shipping platform Sendcloud, up to 18% of Dutch consumers require same-day delivery of their orders. The 69% increase in the latest research suggests this trend is continuing. In addition, more than half of Dutch consumers (58%) expect same-day delivery if the order is placed before noon.

 

“Consumers are becoming more demanding about package delivery and want to decide where, when and how their packages are delivered. We expect the demand for same-day and green delivery options to increase further in 2022. It is therefore imperative that online stores respond to the demand for flexible delivery by offering more options , said Sendcloud founder Andy Lau .

 

According to Dutch logistics company PostNL , a record 384 million parcels were delivered in 2021. Despite the pressure on couriers, no less than 83% of parcels were delivered the next day last year. Even in the busiest month of December, 81% of parcels were delivered within one day. The average delivery time for a parcel is reportedly 1.3 days.

 

Compared with the UK, Germany and France, the Netherlands is smaller in scale, but is also on the rise. According to a survey report on Amazon Netherlands released by foreign media some time ago, there are about 19 million products on the platform and about 97,000 sellers. Among these sellers, most are international sellers, and Chinese sellers account for more than half.

 

In addition to cost-effectiveness, delivery and arrival speed are also important considerations for consumers. With the development of e-commerce, consumers' requirements are getting higher and higher. Providing a better service experience is what sellers need to pay attention to.
