Amazon recalls baby bath chairs made in China

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of a Karmas Far baby bath chair because it poses a drowning hazard to infants.

A baby bath seat is a support used in a bathtub, wash basin or similar bathing equipment that allows a baby to sit on it and provide support for the front and back of the baby while the caregiver bathes the baby. It does not include products designed or intended to retain bath water.

The Karmas Far infant bath seats involved in this recall were sold at Walmart, Amazon, Ebay, Wish and Bosonshop between August 2017 and October 2021, with prices ranging from US$35 to US$75. Approximately 900 were sold.

The CPSC has not received any reports of injuries or fatalities, but recommends that consumers stop using the baby bath seat immediately and contact Karmas Far to return the product.

In fact, this year, the CPSC has already initiated a number of recalls of baby bath chairs. In April, the CPSC wanted to recall 5,000 BATTOP foldable baby bath chairs. In August, the CPSC announced the recall of 120 Frieyss baby bath chairs. The above three baby bath chairs were all manufactured in China, and the reason for the recall was that the products did not meet the federal safety standards for baby bath chair stability, leg openings, etc., and they may tip over during use, posing a risk of drowning for babies.

For baby bath chairs listed on Amazon, Amazon requires sellers to upload relevant products that have been tested and comply with the American Society for Testing and Materials F1967-19 standard (Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Baby Bath Chairs) and the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (lead, phthalates).

If a product is found to have no relevant certification during spot checks, Amazon may delete the relevant product information, suspend the ability to add new products or publish products, withhold payments, or even file a lawsuit.

In addition, sellers must also pay attention to Part 1130 of Title 16 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations (Consumer Registration Requirements for Durable Infant and Toddler Products), Part 1215 of Title 16 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations (Safety Standards for Infant Bath Chairs), Section 14(a)(5) of the United States Consumer Product Safety Act (Tracking Labels), etc.
