21 million Black Friday parcels in the UK may have been damaged in transit

According to DS Smith , 41% of UK consumers will receive up to six defective or damaged deliveries after the Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday sales , meaning approximately 21 million problematic parcels with a total cost of at least £739 million.

 

According to a OnePoll survey of 2,000 Brits, 69% of consumers said they had received defective or damaged items after online shopping, usually due to improper packaging . The most common items were household items, clothing , electrical appliances and entertainment items such as DVDs .

 

DS Smith calls this phenomenon " Black Friday frustration" because nearly half of consumers say the most frustrating thing about receiving a package is that the item arrives damaged .

 

The DS Smith survey also showed that consumer experience is related to product packaging : 24% of consumers are frustrated by unnecessary packaging of products , while 20% of consumers are dissatisfied when the packaging is larger than what is actually needed .

 

When it comes to returns, the DS Smith report shows that consumers do not think it is worth the money to return items costing less than £22 . This leads to waste piling up in people's houses and a waste of resources .

 

At the same time , the study also found that 41 % of consumers said that if they received damaged goods, they would not choose to shop at the corresponding brand store again .

 

In this regard, DS Smith CEO Stefano Rossi commented that the results of this study are eye-opening . Consumers are tired of receiving damaged parcels and goods . The most effective solution to ensure the safe delivery of goods is to use the correct packaging.

 

Rossi also mentioned that proper packaging can ensure the safety of goods , provide consumers with a more comfortable unpacking experience, and reduce the probability of returns and exchanges due to packaging problems. At the same time, this move has a relatively small negative impact on the environment , can reduce carbon emissions, and benefit our planet.
