It is understood that the two companies that filed the lawsuit are Triton Transportation in Beaverton and Last Mile Delivery in Vancouver. The two companies are asking Amazon for $15 million in compensation , plus damages and attorney fees. Amazon currently refuses to comment on the lawsuit.
According to foreign media reports, in the lawsuit , Triton and Last Mile claimed that Amazon determined every element of their business, including which drivers to hire, how much they could pay, and their working hours. They also accused Amazon of refusing to provide basic accommodations, such as using smaller vans on the narrower streets of Portland's West Hill. The complaint mentioned that Amazon rejected the plaintiffs' requests to modify or optimize these routes based on terrain, density, traffic congestion, construction, or any other important considerations .
The lawsuit also claims that drivers are required to work 12 hours a day to meet delivery needs , and Amazon will only compensate them for 10 hours of work , which means that delivery companies must pay the difference, including overtime, from their own budgets.
The two companies also claimed that Amazon did not have the flexibility to allow drivers to slow down on the road and avoid creating dangerous situations. These unreasonable requirements have led to multiple injuries to drivers of the two logistics companies due to the fast-paced loading requirements of the warehouses and back injuries caused by falls and strains caused by rushed deliveries .
It is reported that the lawsuit was filed in the Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, Oregon last Monday. In recent years, Amazon has faced many lawsuits and accusations, including employment issues, tax fees, antitrust and other issues. The reasons for the complaints are mostly infringement of employee rights, such as improper epidemic prevention and control, unfair treatment, and failure to consider the health of employees.
Amazon drivers’ problems are not limited to these. Previously, Amazon installed cameras on delivery trucks, which caused trouble for many drivers. It can be seen that Amazon still has many problems to solve. Amazon complaint fine |
