Walmart recalls aromatherapy sprays due to fatal risk

In recent years, the "olfactory economy" has begun to flourish. A small bottle of aromatherapy can greatly enhance the happiness of home life. Perfumes, scented candles, aromatherapy sprays and other products have also become popular among young consumers. With the hot sales of olfactory products, the safety issues of related products must also be taken seriously.

Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Walmart jointly announced the recall of about 3,900 bottles of six different scents of Better Homes and Gardens brand indoor aromatherapy essential oil sprays. The recall number is 22-007. The reason for the recall is that there may be a rare and dangerous bacteria in the spray, which may cause serious harm to consumers or even fatal risks.

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States has been investigating the source of infection in four confirmed cases of melioidosis . The CDC found the above-mentioned aromatherapy spray in the home of one of the melioidosis patients . After testing, it was determined that the spray contained the rare and dangerous Burkholderia pseudomallei, which causes melioidosis , a difficult to diagnose and potentially fatal disease. Currently, two people in the United States have died from melioidosis , including a child.

It is reported that this aromatherapy spray was manufactured in India and sold in about 55 Walmart stores in the United States and online at walmart.com from February 2021 to October 2021 for about $4. Walmart has now stopped selling the product.

According to the CDC's recommendations, consumers who purchased the above aromatherapy spray should stop using it immediately and return the spray to a Walmart store in a clean, transparent, resealable ziplock bag for a full refund. Do not open the bottle , throw away or attempt to dispose of the spray privately . If the spray has been opened and used, contaminated objects should be disinfected and cleaned in accordance with relevant regulations.

A small bottle of aromatherapy spray can actually pose a fatal risk. Through this recall, we can further feel the importance of product safety. Regardless of the industry, sellers must control the quality of their products when producing them to ensure the personal and property safety of consumers.
