51% of American consumers have started to shop in advance, and multiple expenditures will increase!

According to the latest foreign survey, 51% of American consumers plan to start their 2021 holiday shopping before Thanksgiving ( last year the proportion was 49%) . In addition, 29% of American consumers plan to increase spending on holiday shopping , both of which have increased compared to last year. The survey found that among these consumers who started shopping in advance, more than two-thirds planned to start checking their gift lists this month .

The survey said that Thanksgiving will be an important key holiday for those consumers who return to Black Friday shopping . Based on local consumption trends during the epidemic, the largest increase in holiday spending will be in technology electronics and home products. However, sellers should be prepared that there will inevitably be peaks and troughs in consumption during the peak season , but these periods will be masked to a certain extent by consumers ' average purchases.

According to NPD's chief consultant for the retail industry , early holiday shopping has become a trend since stores opened on Thanksgiving Day in 2014. In addition, due to last year's epidemic, Amazon 's Prime Day was moved to October , and consumers were worried about shipping delays and other factors, which further promoted early shopping. The 2021 holiday season will continue the previous shopping trend . This year's shortage of goods has made consumers more aware of the need to shop in advance.

In the past three years, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have continued to lead the trend of holiday shopping abroad . Some foreign retailers have also started some promotional activities from this month , with the obvious purpose of attracting more consumers in advance. Therefore, not only foreign sellers, but also domestic sellers should pay attention to the fact that the period before November is becoming more and more important .

Affected by the epidemic, many sellers are worried about sales in the United States, but according to forecasts, sales are still relatively stable. It is predicted that holiday spending by American consumers will increase by 3% in November and December this year. If the shopping season is extended to early January next year, the growth will reach 5% .

During the peak season in the United States last year, sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday increased by 22% and 15.6% respectively , and Thanksgiving sales increased by 21.4%, exceeding $5 billion. Even during the pandemic, the growth rate did not decline, so the final result of this year's peak season is still worth looking forward to. Sellers should focus on the problems to be solved and go all out to sprint for the peak season.
