Over the past year or so, the sales performance of child car safety seats in the United States has been like a roller coaster. According to a survey by the agency NPD, in 2020, as parents and children stayed at home and did not travel by car, there was little demand for safety seats. This led to a gradual decline in the sales of safety seats.

 

However, this year, the safety seat industry has rebounded. Compared with January, sales of safety seats in August increased by nearly 24%. As the epidemic situation has eased and people's vaccination rates continue to increase, people have started to travel again. Some consumers who originally planned to buy or needed to replace new seats have once again pushed up the sales of safety seats. Among so many styles, integrated car safety seats are the most popular.

 

In addition to safety seats, sales of child guardrails have also increased this year. Due to the lack of independent action and discrimination ability, babies are prone to a series of safety accidents caused by crawling around, and guardrails can provide a safer environment. NPD said that the increase in sales of guardrails is likely because consumers want more space when working from home, which has increased the purchase of new homes.

 

In recent years, many smart products have appeared in the field of baby products, including smart baby monitors. In addition to basic recording functions, current baby monitors can also do voice intercom, viewing angle adjustment control, night monitoring, music playback, etc. Now, installing smart baby monitors has become a new trend. According to NPD data, sales of smart baby monitors have increased this year, and sales in August this year increased by 21% compared with the beginning of the year.

 

It should be noted that not all children-related products have seen an increase in sales. This year, there is not much demand for children's thermometers. This is because consumers bought a large number of thermometers last year and do not need to replace them for the time being. It is understood that compared with 2019, sales of children's thermometers increased by $1 million from January to August 2020.

 

Regarding future market trends, NPD said that as the shadow of the epidemic lingers, people will continue to look for ways to ensure the safety of their children. In response, brands and retailers can innovate in child car seats, safety accessories, health and beauty to stimulate new demand.
