Another container ship runs aground in the Suez Canal

It is understood that on September 9, there were reports that a Panama-flagged cargo ship named "Coral Crystal" ran aground in the Suez Canal. It is understood that the "Coral Crystal" was loaded with 43,000 tons of cargo and had problems while traveling south through the canal. It was stuck in the Bailach branch of the Suez Canal, but fortunately the blockage was quickly cleared. However, according to British reports, there are still passing ships that are delayed due to the short blockage.

The Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. It is an important transportation route connecting Asia with Europe. Once blocked, it will have a significant impact on global shipping and trade. Now that the process of globalization is accelerating, the status of the Suez Canal as a transportation route has become more prominent.

In March this year , a 400-meter-long ultra-large container ship named "Ever Given" got stuck in the Suez Canal, which attracted worldwide attention and caused a shipping jam for nearly a week, causing huge chaos to global shipping and supply chains. In order to rescue the "Ever Given", dredgers removed more than 20,000 tons of sand. After unremitting efforts, the "Ever Given" finally resumed normal sailing.

Shipping costs have been rising since the beginning of this year. The "Ever Given" incident triggered a series of problems, including shipping congestion, delayed delivery of cargo ships, container shortages, soaring freight rates, and more and more problems followed one after another.

The second half of this year marks the peak shipping season. Cargo ships are in short supply and containers are even harder to come by. Coupled with the recurrence of the epidemic in some parts of the world, cargo ships are docked at ports and cannot leave, which has posed unprecedented challenges to global shipping.

Recently, freight rates have risen to an alarming level. Some industry insiders joked that no matter how much the price of goods rises, the biggest winner this year is the ship owner! Some US retail giants have even started to charter their own ships to transport goods.

Now we are about to usher in the autumn and winter "Black Friday" and "Christmas Shopping Season", and the global shopping carnival is about to begin. It is expected that the lively shipping situation will continue. However, sellers must also respond actively, operate in compliance, strive to reap dividends in the shopping boom, and wait for shipping to return to normal!
