Australia Post plans to add 4,000 team members to meet the growing demand for e-commerce logistics and transportation due to the epidemic lockdown and the upcoming Christmas online shopping frenzy .
As New South Wales and Victoria continue to block the epidemic , online shopping sales in Australia have surged again. To meet demand, Australia Post will introduce 3,500 additional logistics and transportation jobs ( 350 in remote areas), including more than 1,000 drivers and 2,100 employees to help sort parcels, as well as new customer support operations in Victoria and Queensland .
Australia Post officials have also confirmed it will continue its weekend delivery service until the end of the year, with 500,000 parcels expected to be delivered each weekend between now and December 25 .
According to Australia Post's 2021 Online Shopping Report, more than 9 million Australians shopped online in the past financial year, a year-on-year increase of 32%.
Australia Post , a government company , has opened pop-up sites to help deal with the overload of enquiries , but new staff will continue to deliveries as the coronavirus lockdown extends and parcel volumes surge to their highest level since Christmas last year.
Australia Post executive general manager Nicole Sheffield said that although there were some delays caused by the epidemic isolation policy , reduced air freight capacity and reliance on cross-border transportation services, Australia Post was still able to ensure that most parcels were delivered on time.
" Since March last year , our posties have been delivering on the vast majority of days , including Christmas Day. Australians are relying on us more than ever , so we've decided to add some extra staff to prepare for the Christmas online shopping frenzy this year . "
" We will be hiring more than 4,000 new logistics employees across the country to help with our sorting , transportation, delivery, and maintenance of postal facilities. "
Nicole Sheffield added : “ We have taken a number of measures to ensure the safety of our staff and customers in light of the pandemic , so while this has caused some minor delays, we are working harder than ever to ensure citizens ’ parcels are delivered safely . ” logistics |
