FDA warns! Amazon urgently removes dangerous goods

As a common nutrient product , dietary supplements are very popular because they can not only keep people healthy but also prevent diseases. Nowadays, there are more and more types of dietary supplements on the market , but the quality is also uneven.

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified Amazon that it should remove some " supplements that enhance sexual function and help weight loss" sold on its platform as soon as possible because their drug ingredients are potentially toxic.

Subsequently, Amazon urgently removed these dangerous products from the shelves and stated that it would continue to strengthen cooperation with the FDA .

According to the test data provided by the FDA , through random testing of dozens of products purchased from December 2019 to February 2020 , they found that these products all contained one or more drug ingredients such as sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil.

It is reported that all three drugs are helpful for male erectile dysfunction, but because they may interact with each other when taken at the same time, there is a risk of blood pressure dropping to dangerous levels . Therefore, they must be marked on the product labels when sold. Unfortunately, some sellers on platforms such as Amazon and eBay do not comply with this regulation.

In fact, this is not the first time that the FDA has notified Amazon that the supplements sold on the platform for "sexual enhancement and weight loss" have safety issues.

As early as last December , the FDA warned consumers to avoid buying " male sexual enhancement " products and weight loss products on Amazon, eBay and other retailers , saying that these products contain hidden dangerous drug ingredients.

As the most developed country in the world in dietary supplements , the United States has a strong demand for such products. Surveys show that the U.S. dietary supplement industry is growing at an annual rate of about 7%-8%. In addition, in 2020, the North American dietary supplement market alone accounted for more than 30% of the global market share .

Faced with such a large consumer market, if there is no supervision, various potentially dangerous goods will flow into the market, which will inevitably pose a threat to the health and safety of consumers.

In response, the U.S. health regulator said on Twitter on Thursday : We will continue to purchase and test potentially dangerous products sold by major platforms , and urge all stores and online platforms to take more measures to protect consumer health and resolutely not sell any dangerous, potentially risky or illegal products regulated by the FDA .

In short, the safety review of dietary supplements will become more and more stringent. The editor hereby reminds merchants who sell related items to ensure that their products meet the platform requirements to avoid being forced to be removed from the shelves.
