Amazon's distribution center in the Netherlands will open this week

Amazon's distribution center in the Netherlands will open this week

Amazon plans to expand its operations in the Netherlands.

Although the Netherlands is a small country, it is still a market worth paying attention to in Europe. In 2020, Amazon has fully launched in the Netherlands and started to build a distribution center. According to the latest news, this distribution center has been fully completed and will be officially opened this week. After it is put into use, orders in Amsterdam, Rotterdam The Hague, Haarlem and Utrecht will be served by this distribution center.

To this end, Amazon recently launched electric trucks in the Netherlands to take over the logistics and distribution. The logistics director also said: "The Netherlands is a market with great potential, and Amazon will further expand its business in the Netherlands."

Initially, Dutch people had to shop on Amazon through the German site. The Netherlands site was officially opened globally last year. The Netherlands site is Amazon's sixth market in Europe. Although it started late, sales have increased significantly since it went online last year, posing a great threat to the local e-commerce platform Bol.com.

According to statistics, the Netherlands ranks third in terms of online retail penetration among European countries. The proportion of consumers aged 15 and above who have shopped online in the Netherlands has reached 80%, far higher than the European average of 60%.

In addition, after Brexit, 94% of British brands have lost EU customers due to transportation obstacles. These original consumers will flock to other sites. This situation also provides more opportunities for sellers on the Dutch site.

According to the preferences of local people, the hot-selling categories are mainly clothing, electronic products, household appliances, decorations and sports equipment. Moreover, the Netherlands is also known as the "kingdom of bicycles". If you travel to the Netherlands, you can see people riding bicycles everywhere. Local people especially like to ride bicycles, so bicycle accessories are also very popular in online shopping, which can be used as a reference for sellers when selecting products.

Faced with this market potential, Bol.com, the largest local e-commerce platform in the Netherlands , has also begun to make efforts to provide advertising services to sellers in order to enhance its competitiveness with Amazon.

It can be seen that although the market of the Netherlands is relatively small compared with that of the UK and Germany, its potential is still to be tapped.
