South Korean online e-commerce platform Market Kurly shows that the growth in the number of new users aged 50-60 in the first half of this year was twice the average growth rate of all users.
From January to May this year , Market Kurly's newly registered senior customers aged 50-60 increased by 188 % year-on- year , which is about twice the average growth rate of all age groups (95%) and significantly exceeds the growth rates recorded by those in their 20s (64%) and 30s (51%).
The proportion of elderly customers aged 50-60 in the total number of new customers has also increased from 18% last year to 26% this year. The reason for this phenomenon is that due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic , Koreans in this age group have gradually become accustomed to non-face-to-face shopping, and food shopping, which was originally done in physical shopping malls, has also shifted to online shopping, and the speed of change has accelerated.
With the significant increase in new users aged 50-60 , related sales are also increasing dramatically. This is because the number of purchases and order amounts of customers aged 50-60 have also shown an increase rate that is significantly higher than the overall average.
From January to May this year , the growth rate of purchases and orders of Market Kurly 's 50-60 - year-old customers exceeded the overall average. The order volume increased by 95% year-on-year , which is much higher than the existing 30-40 core customer group (73%). The purchase volume of 50-60 - year - old customers also increased by 102% compared with the previous year , and the frequency of use also increased significantly compared with other age groups.
Another characteristic of 50-60 year old customers is that they spend a lot of money when they visit the market. The average purchase amount of 50-60 year old customers at Market Kurly is 13% higher than the average purchase amount of all age groups . It is 43% higher than the average purchase price of people in their 20s and 8% higher than the average purchase price of people in their 30s, showing their high purchasing power.
In addition, according to analysis, elderly customers aged 50-60 have accumulated rich purchasing experience when shopping online and are accustomed to related services. They have not only increased their consumption of fresh food, but also increased their consumption of convenience food and soups for more convenient dining.
It is reported that Market Kurly is working with CJ Korea Express to expand early morning delivery to the whole country and has officially announced its listing plan. Of course, with the increase in the number of large companies focusing on the fresh food market this year and the intensified competition, Market Kurly does have concerns. But it is undeniable that it played an important role in leading and creating the early market in Korea. South Korea Elderly Online Shopping |
