The growth rate of e-commerce in the United States has exceeded expectations, reaching two years in one year

E-commerce accounted for 13.4% of total retail sales in the United States in the first quarter

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, e -commerce sales accounted for 13.4% of total retail sales in the first quarter of 2021. Before the COVID-19 pandemic , that share was expected to be 12.3%.

The year of growth from the first quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2021 will be replaced by two years , mainly due to the greatly increased penetration of e-commerce caused by the reduction in overall retail spending in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic .

Industry insiders predict that e-commerce penetration will not decline in 2021 and beyond, but will continue to grow from current levels. After reaching nearly $800 billion in sales in 2020, it could exceed $1 trillion as early as 2022.

In fact, e-commerce in the United States has been growing steadily over the past decade. The COVID-19 pandemic brought a step change, bringing growth forward by a year, but it did not accelerate growth, and in the following quarters it returned to a state of steady growth.

US home sales set to hit record $2.53T

The "substantial uptick" in the housing market during the coronavirus pandemic was driven by low mortgage rates, high demand and a surge in migration due to remote work. U.S. real estate company Redfin predicts that U.S. home sales will reach a record $2.53 trillion this year , and said in a report on Tuesday that a 17% year-on-year increase would be the largest increase since 2013.

Home prices , price appreciation, and sales velocity are all reaching new heights. Redfin reported that the national median home sale price reached a record high of $353,000 in March, up 17% from 2020 and a new all-time high.

Across the country, millennials are rising, baby boomers are downsizing, and in between, generations are rethinking life in a cultural phenomenon called the Great Reshuffle, some say .

The record growth in U.S. home sales will inevitably drive Americans to renovate their homes and purchase home furniture. Home decoration-related products are also likely to see a surge in orders, so relevant sellers should pay close attention.
