Fareway launches online shopping, curbside pickup service in the US

As e-commerce progresses so rapidly, consumers' shopping needs are constantly changing and upgrading, and retailers are also constantly improving their shopping experience in various ways to adapt to consumers' consumption needs and behaviors.

Fareway, an Iowa- based Midwestern grocery store chain , now offers online shopping at nearly 50 of its Fareway Meat & Grocery and Fareway Meat Market stores. Additional stores will be rolling out online shopping in the coming months.

The click-and-collect solution launched last January at Fareway's flagship store in Boone, Iowa. Customers can shop online by visiting Fareway's website or through Fareway's mobile app , and orders can be changed half an hour before pickup or be ready within four hours of ordering .

"We saw other online offerings fall short in terms of experience , so we are excited to expand our unparalleled Fareway shopping experience by adding the convenience of ordering online ," said Reynolds W. Cramer, president and CEO of Fareway .

The online platform is powered by Madison, Wisconsin-based GrocerKey, which combines white-label e-commerce technology, e-commerce grocery operations experience and proven strategies to help physical grocers build successful e-commerce businesses. In February, the company received $ 2.4 million in investment from 18 private investors in its latest round of equity financing, bringing the total funds raised from investors to $9.5 million.

Fareway, which operates 128 stores in six Midwestern states and employs more than 12,000 people , ranks No. 79 on the PG 100, Progressive Grocer's ranking of North American food and consumer product retailers.
