As competition among South Korean businesses intensifies amid the pandemic-induced online shopping boom, the country's major e-commerce giants are offering the cheapest prices and free delivery services to stay ahead of their rivals.
It is reported that Market Curly announced on the 12th that it will implement the "Everyday Low Price (EDLP)" policy to sell more than 60 products such as bean sprouts, tofu and ramen at the lowest online prices.
Under this new measure , fresh foods such as vegetables , fruits, seafood, lean meat, dairy products , and rice, seaweed, ramen, etc. are sold at the lowest prices for online shopping.
Market Kurly said it will adjust the prices of selected items every day after monitoring the price tags of other platforms to determine the lowest price to sell. In addition, Market Kurly plans to target lifestyle products such as toilet paper and beauty paper as the lowest online price in the first half of this year.
Currently, Market Kurly is actively bringing in new customers with promotions including a "100 won deal" that lets you buy popular products for 100 won until next month, and a free shipping campaign where the length of free shipping depends on the amount of your first purchase.
Previously, E-Mart launched a lowest price reward system for 500 products and launched a competition for the lowest price. This is a way to compare the same products with the same volume sold by Coupang and Lotte Mart, accumulate the difference with electronic money, and use it like cash if there is a cheaper product .
Additionally, Lotte Mart plans to implement a minimum price compensation system in a similar manner to E-Mart in the near future.
An official in the distribution industry said , “The current situation reminds me of the ‘10 won war’ between three large supermarkets in 2010, when they competed by claiming to be 10 won cheaper than their competitors. Therefore, the lowest price competition is likely to continue for a short period of time.” South Korea Online Marketplace Price Competition |
