Coupang will build three new delivery centers in South Gyeongsang Province. This is another additional investment just over 10 days after Coupang announced plans to build its largest logistics center in Wanju County, North Jeolla Province .
According to the memorandum of understanding signed with Gyeongsangnam-do, Changwon City, Gimhae City and Busan Jinhae Free Economic Zone, Coupang will invest 298.6 billion won to build two new comprehensive smart logistics centers for general and fresh goods in the Dudong area of Jinhae District, Changwon City, Busan Jinhae Free Economic Zone.
Gyeongnam Coupang Logistics Center opened In addition, a logistics center will be built in Gimhae City with an investment of 19 billion won , bringing the total investment to over 300 billion won.
This approach will create 4,000 direct jobs in South Gyeongsang Province and build the largest distribution center in South Gyeongsang Province with a total area of 180,000 square meters.
This investment will not only create more high-quality jobs in South Gyeongsang Province, but will also provide new and powerful sales channels for local small businesses and farmers and fishermen, helping to develop the regional economy.
This is the second major investment made by Coupang after its listing on the New York Stock Exchange on the 11th of last month. Coupang has supported this series of large-scale investments with more than 4 trillion won in cash flow after its listing.
Coupang will build a "rocket delivery network" by investing in distribution centers. Currently, Coupang's rocket delivery is nominally carried out nationwide, but in many places, the area of rocket delivery is still uncertain . This phenomenon is more obvious the farther away from the capital.
From this point of view, Coupang's investment in North Jeolla and South Gyeongsang regions is expected to become an opportunity to expand rocket delivery points to local consumers.
According to the investment plan disclosed by Coupang after its IPO, Coupang will set up a complete set of integrated logistics management system (ILM) centers in seven regions of South Korea except Seoul, with a total area of 1 million square meters. It is planned to fully realize the strategic goal of delivery within 10 km by 2025.
In addition to the investment in the logistics center, Coupang will also invest new funds, including strengthening delivery services through the Coupang Logistics Center, expanding online video services (OTT), strengthening its own brand (PB) products, and expanding the use of fresh foods such as direct sales from the source.
