German Customs responded that Chinese cross-border e-commerce sellers do not need to register EORI numbers

According to the latest cross-border news, the German Customs Headquarters has informed that it will no longer issue customs EORI numbers to companies not related to customs clearance. Overseas companies that are not registered in Germany are now unable to successfully apply for customs codes.

Since the end of last year, many German sellers have been waiting for Germany to issue the customs EORI number. The latest news revealed that the previously issued EORI number will not be cancelled at present. If the company has import needs and needs to register a customs number, the company can choose an overseas company for freight forwarding services.

The EORI (Economic Operators ' Registration and Identification) number is a unique digital identifier issued by the customs of EU member states to companies or individuals. It is registered in one country and is valid throughout the EU.

EORI is used for import customs clearance. It is a certificate used by customs to track and identify the seller of imported and exported goods. EORI and VAT must belong to the same company to be used for customs clearance. Sellers must apply for VAT first and then EORI.

Companies that need to register for an EORI number include:

Exporting goods to EU countries or exporting goods from EU countries to non-EU countries; online B2C practitioners in EU countries; Chinese companies with offices in EU countries that need to import samples from EU countries; situations where customers from other EU countries require Chinese companies to issue EORI numbers.

Sellers do not need to panic. What needs to be clarified at present is the relevant information about the use of the EORI number. According to the German Joint Customs Act and the relevant documents of the Delegated Regulation, the EORI number is a unique number assigned by the EU competent authorities to identify business operators and, if necessary, other persons relative to the customs authorities.

An economic operator is a person who, as part of his business activities, engages in activities covered by customs regulations. Economic operators outside the customs area of the European Union only need to register an EORI number if they appear as a declarant or carrier vis-à-vis the German customs according to the relevant regulations. Therefore, as an importer or exporter, as a third-country economic operator, the seller does not need an EORI number.
