Amazon truck drivers' strike is getting more intense. Previously, it was limited to one or two warehouses. Recently, angry drivers are expanding their strike team and spreading the war to a fourth Amazon warehouse.
According to the latest reports from foreign media, the team of striking drivers and dispatchers from Palmdale, California is growing. At present, the strike team has "occupied" the fourth warehouse, ONT5 warehouse in San Bernardino, California.
Outside the factory, drivers are still shouting loudly for their long-standing demands, asking Amazon to stop its exploitation of the driver group and saying that the escalating strike will continue until Amazon responds. After weeks of protests, the drivers have been holding on to their original demands, which include asking Amazon to reinstate employees it illegally fired, respect the contract negotiated by the driver group, and reach an agreement with the Teamsters union to address low wages and poor working conditions.
" I work for the richest company in the world, but I'm paid so little that I have to work two other jobs to feed my kids, " said Giovanna Figueroa, an Amazon driver.
“We are ready to strike as long as necessary and will take our strike teams to other Amazon warehouses to stop Amazon’s unfair labor practices. We want to fight for a good job for all Amazon employees, and we will definitely win!”
As early as June 24, Amazon employees at the Palmdale warehouse in California began a strike. San Bernardino is the fourth Amazon warehouse "occupied" by striking drivers. They have already extended the strike to Amazon sorting centers in Mira Loma and Newark, California.
“These Amazon workers are fighting for fair pay and safe working conditions, but Amazon is unilaterally refusing to negotiate with them,” said Victor Mineros, secretary-treasurer of the Teamsters union .
He added: “We have received tremendous support from the community and other industry professionals. We will not spare any effort to hold this company accountable and change the current situation where its employees have been oppressed.”
According to previous practice, workers' strike actions are usually resolved in about a week, but this time it not only lasted for a long time, but the battle line is even expanding. If Amazon does not take corresponding measures in time, it may cause a series of chain reactions. Amazon strike |
