New progress in Amazon’s anti-counterfeiting efforts, someone has been sued again!

Recently, Amazon has made new progress in combating counterfeit and shoddy products.

On June 21, US time , Amazon's Counterfeit Crimes Unit ( CCU ) and the well-known health technology brand Therabody filed an infringement lawsuit against a criminal gang that sold counterfeit products. According to Amazon, the criminal gang tried to sell counterfeit Therabody massage devices on its platform through 6 accounts.

The class action lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington , case number: 2:23-cv-00931.

Therabody is a well-known brand in the field of health technology. Its most popular massage device, Theragun, was launched in 2016 and is currently used by more than 250 professional sports teams, physical therapists, coaches, celebrities and consumers in more than 40 countries around the world. The company has invested a lot of time and resources in research and development, and has obtained more than 500 patents. The counterfeit Theragun does not have the patent, quality and durability of the original, which brings risks to users.

Through close cooperation with Therabody , Amazon quickly deleted the relevant accounts after verifying the authenticity of the products and proactively refunded customers who had already purchased the products.

Kebharu Smith , director of Amazon CCU , said that thanks to Therabody’s cooperation, the company will take further action to hold fraudsters accountable for their actions; the company will also continue to build strong partnerships with all brands and work together to solve the counterfeiting problem in the industry.

Prior to Therabody, Amazon CCU has already launched joint actions with many well-known brands such as Cisco , Canon and YETI .

June 22, Cisco counterfeiters face up to 6.5 years in prison

A Florida man admitted to selling counterfeit Cisco products. According to his plea agreement, the man operated several independent companies and dozens of online stores, imported thousands of counterfeit Cisco products from all over the world, and sold them in the United States, earning millions of dollars in illegal sales. According to local law, the man will face 4 to 6 and a half years in prison and agree to confiscate $15 million in illegal income. CCU and Cisco jointly sued the man in July 2022.

On May 22, we worked with YETI to file a second round of lawsuits against counterfeiters.

CCU and YETI Coolers filed a total of three lawsuits against investigated counterfeiters , and this round of litigation follows actions taken by both parties in 2020. These counterfeiters attempted to sell counterfeit YETI products , including the brand's popular Rambler water bottle , through four platform accounts . Amazon's investigation found that the fraudulent activities have expanded beyond the United States. The lawsuits were filed in the Federal District Court for the Western District of Washington .

May 10, filed a joint lawsuit with Canon

CCU and Canon jointly sued a group of counterfeiters who attempted to advertise, market and sell camera batteries and chargers on Amazon stores, alleging that they infringed Canon's registered trademarks. When Amazon discovered this attempt at abuse, the company worked with Canon to confirm that the products in question were counterfeit and took swift action to shut down 29 sales accounts operated by the defendants .

In addition, the CCU actively collaborates with law enforcement agencies and refers criminals for investigation while seizing counterfeit products directly at the source.
