In recent years, second-hand goods have been gaining popularity among consumers, and more and more second-hand sellers have joined online sales. According to foreign media reports, ThredUP and Mercari, the leaders of second-hand e-commerce platforms, recently announced that they will adopt new shopping methods to increase consumers' shopping desire.
It is reported that ThredUP has cooperated with the costume designer of "Sex and the City" to change the style of its online platform store page; and Mercari will open an experiential pop-up store in San Francisco later this month to show consumers the process and convenience of selling second-hand goods.
ThredUP said it will help fans create their own SATC-style look through three themed online storefronts filled with hundreds of styles carefully selected by costume designers Rogers and Santiago, some of which come directly from their closets. The program is called "Just Like That," a reference to the reboot of "Sex and The City."
On top of that, according to research conducted by Mercari, Americans receive an average of 3.8 unwanted gifts this holiday season. To address this product overabundance, Mercari will open its first experiential pop-up store at Stonestown Galleria Mall in San Francisco from December 29, 2021 to February 12, 2022 to educate consumers on the convenience of secondhand merchandise sales and its impact on the reuse ecosystem.
Mercari pointed out that in accordance with Mercari's concept of helping consumers "reimagine reuse", the pop-up store will have four experience areas to help customers give unused items a second life. Customers in the store will directly skip the online list and shipping process and interact with on-site experts who will assess the value of each item and get paid on the spot. Mercari users can sell almost anything in the store, including clothing, toys and games, kitchenware, sports equipment and home decorations.
John Lagerling, CEO of Mercari in the United States, said that this year the seller experience on the Mercari platform will be brought into people's lives in a brand new way, helping consumers understand the process and convenience of selling second-hand products while expanding the second-hand e-commerce market.
