With sales exceeding 70,000, domestic fitness equipment was recalled!

With the improvement of health awareness and living standards, people have begun to pay attention to sports and fitness. More and more people are running, swimming, and going to the gym. There are also some fitness enthusiasts who directly buy fitness equipment to exercise at home. When choosing fitness equipment, in addition to convenience and practicality, quality and safety are also very important!

Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of more than 70,000 Olympic dumbbell handles, with the recall number 22-022. The reason for the recall is that the locking rings on these dumbbell handles may slip and fall when they are perpendicular to the floor, causing the risk of heavy objects hitting.

The recall involves OBB-20 Olympic dumbbell handles, which are manufactured in China. Each dumbbell handle comes with two black locking tabs that allow users to perform a variety of dumbbell exercises.

From July 2015 to July 2021, 77,200 of these dumbbells were sold in Dick's Sporting Goods stores and websites in the United States , priced at about $50. So far, Impex, the importer of the dumbbells, has received four reports of the locking rings slipping off, and no one has been injured.

Consumers who purchased this product should immediately stop using these dumbbell handles , throw the old collars from the dumbbells in the trash , and then contact Impex Fitness for a new set of locking collars, free of charge.

During the epidemic, people spent more time at home, which increased consumer demand for fitness equipment. According to data from the NPD Group, sales of fitness equipment in the United States in 2020 increased by 85% compared with the same period in 2019, reaching US$3.7 billion. As of August this year, sales of fitness equipment in the United States increased by 20% compared with the same period last year, a total increase of 108% in two years.

BMO Capital Markets analyst Simon Siegel said: "The explosive growth of home fitness is directly related to the booming e-commerce in the past decade." It is expected that consumers' interest in fitness will not wane in the next few years, and the demand for fitness equipment will continue to exist, which is good news for sellers in the fitness equipment industry.

At the same time, industry sellers must also strictly control the quality of products when producing products to ensure the personal and property safety of consumers!
