Amazon VS Flipkart: The battle for India’s big sale is fierce!

Amazon VS Flipkart: The battle for India’s big sale is fierce!

In the past October, Indian consumers' wallets have undergone a "major weight loss". The Great Indian Festival of e-commerce giant Amazon has just begun, and the Big Billion Days of e-commerce platform Flipkart has almost started at the same time. In order to attract more consumers to shop, these two giants have tried their best and come up with unique tricks.

According to data from digital business analytics platform DataWeave and Moneycontrol, 70% to 80% of the products sold on the two platforms are discounted. Moreover, Flipkart offers higher discounts than Amazon. Flipkart offers an average discount of 26.3%, while Amazon only offers a discount of 10.6%.

And in terms of the number of discounted products, the two companies offer different discounts for different types of products.

In the air conditioner category, Flipkart has 84% discounts, while Amazon has only 73.1% discounts. Flipkart also has a slight advantage in the number of discounts on laptops, with at least 87% of related products discounted, while Amazon has 76.3% discounts. However, in smart TVs, Amazon has made a comeback, with 72.1% of related products discounted.

Interestingly, on Flipkart and Amazon, 3.2% and 2.5% of electronics products saw their prices increase during the sale, far from the 60-70% discounts shown in the advertisements.

However, this has not dampened consumers’ enthusiasm for purchasing such products. Data shows that during the festive promotion period, more than 1 million consumers purchased smartphones from Amazon India.

Experts analyzed that due to the impact of the epidemic and the increasing appeal of e-commerce shopping, consumers are more satisfied with online shopping. Therefore, even without a lot of discounts, it can still attract consumers to shop. And for online shopping customers, the convenience brought by online shopping takes precedence over discounts.

According to statistics, during this promotion, the number of sellers and sales of Flipkart and Amazon increased to varying degrees. During the promotion period, the number of new sellers on Flipkart increased by 55% compared with the same period last year, and more than 10% of sellers increased their sales by 3 times. The number of sellers on Amazon India increased by 2 times, and sales also broke last year's record.
