Microsoft joins hands with Shopify to challenge Amazon!

Earlier this year, Google announced a partnership with Shopify that will allow the more than 1.7 million merchants on the Shopify platform to reach consumers through Google Search and other services.

Recently, Microsoft also announced its cooperation with Shopify to expand platform product support through Bing search, Edge browser shopping tab and the newly launched news software Microsoft Start.

Shopify merchants can integrate with Microsoft channel applications to expand the promotion of their products. After integration, products will be displayed in interfaces such as Bing, Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Start for free.

The Shopify-Microsoft integration will also allow merchants to create new advertising campaigns and view marketing performance through real-time reporting on Shopify stores, and other shopping feature enhancements are planned to be launched in the future.

According to the editor, in recent years, as Amazon continues to expand its advertising business, Microsoft, like Google, has faced strong competitors in advertising revenue.

As the advertising market rebounds, while Microsoft's search advertising revenue has been growing in recent quarters, Amazon's market share is also growing rapidly. According to the Wall Street Journal, in the first half of 2021, Amazon's advertising sales were US$14.82 billion, an increase of 82% year-on-year.

To meet this challenge, Google launched the Google Shopping service for online advertisers at its I/O developer conference this spring . Google said the service can integrate relevant information such as product prices, reviews and data on the website to help consumers find the best way to buy.

Last year, Google also announced that it would allow merchants to sell goods freely on its platform. According to Google, this change has driven an 80% increase in the number of merchants on the Google platform , most of which are small and medium-sized enterprises.

As more consumers begin to bypass search engines and homepage portals and conduct product searches directly on Amazon, both Google and Microsoft's revenue will take a hit.

Cooperation with the Shopify platform will allow the two giants, Microsoft and Google, to more directly obtain large amounts of online inventory for display and sales, making the products of the two platforms more competitive to a certain extent.
