The number of sellers on Brazilian e-commerce platform Magalu has reached 100,000!

It is reported that Magalu, a Brazilian giant retailer, has cooperated with 100,000 sellers in September, setting a new record. The report said that about 40% of these 100,000 sellers are small and medium-sized enterprises from all over the country who joined the platform during the epidemic.

According to Magalu , Magalu’s 1,400+ physical stores have contributed greatly to the growth in the number of sellers this time, as these physical stores were the initial entry point for sellers to sell their products. It is reported that Magalu ’s physical stores are currently operating as post offices.

Leandro Soares, Magalu’s executive director of the marketplace, explained in a press release that once a seller delivers an item to any store in the chain, the item actually enters the platform’s logistics network as a digitally sold product.

In August this year , Magalu launched POS terminals, digital accounts and loans for its partner sellers. In addition to financial solutions, Magalu is also betting on advertising platforms and cross-selling content solutions to expand its partner seller base.

Through advertising promotion and branded content solutions, they offer sellers the ability to use the type of advertising that best suits the moment and the product they want to promote. From branded content solutions to product placement solutions, Lu (half mascot, half assistant and virtual influencer of Magalu) uses the products in sellers’ marketing campaigns.

At a time when Asian e-commerce giants such as AliExpress and Shopee are also opening their markets to Brazilian sellers, the growth in the number of sellers has undoubtedly accelerated Magalu's development. In July this year, Magalu also announced the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Brazilian e-commerce company Kabum, which was worth about 1 billion reais. At that time, this move was also believed to have attracted more than 2 million new sellers.

It is reported that Magalu's sales in the second quarter of 2021 exceeded US$570 million. Sales in the second half of the year are expected to reach a new high. In addition, Brazilian consumers' enthusiasm for cross-border shopping continues, and there is still a great demand for products from China and the United States.
