Rising consumer demand in second- and third-tier cities drives holiday sales

According to foreign media reports, e-commerce companies such as Flipkart, Amazon India and Snapdeal have recently launched their annual promotional activities and reported that online shopping demand among consumers in second- and third-tier small cities is rising during this year's holiday promotions , making a great contribution to driving holiday sales growth .

The two companies launched their The Big Billion Days and The Great Indian Festival promotions respectively on October 3. Flipkart said that nearly 45% of customer demand during the event came from Tier III and above cities. On the other hand, Amazon India reported a 21% increase in the number of sellers receiving orders from customers in Tier II and III cities .

E-commerce platforms such as Myntra and Snapdeal have also launched festive promotions recently , and they said they have also seen a large increase in sales in second- and third- tier cities. Especially Myntra, 40% of the orders on the first day of the event came from small towns.

Flipkart said that the number of people experiencing its "Flipkart Plus" program during this year's event increased by 40% over last year , and about 45% of customer demand came from Tier 3 cities and above . In a separate statement, Amazon India Vice President Manish Tiwary said that sellers achieved the highest single-day sales ever during the event , with an average year-on-year growth of 60% , and the number of sellers receiving orders from Tier 2 and 3 cities increased by 21% .

In terms of consumer shopping trends, Flipkart said smartphones are hot-selling. About one-fifth of customers choose to replace their smartphones with new ones, and 82.6% of customers choose to use prepaid methods to purchase their next smartphone, among which Apple 12 and Apple 12 Mini are currently the most popular smartphone models.

Flipkart said the best-selling product categories were beauty, mobile protection, home decoration, home and modern women's products. In addition, sales of sports shoes, outdoor clothing and men's clothing are also soaring in the fashion category. Payment methods such as Flipkart Pay Later, free EMI, Flipkart Axis Bank co-branded credit cards are also becoming more and more popular among consumers.

Although the purchasing power of consumers in second- and third-tier cities is not as high as that of consumers in first-tier cities, they occupy a very important position in the field of e-commerce. Sellers must take into account the consumption needs of these buyers when conducting business activities.
