In July, US gaming hardware spending increased by 98%, and related products were sold out!

Affected by the epidemic, the US game market, like the e-commerce market, achieved a leap-forward growth last year, with spending on game hardware and accessories increasing by 62%. As the epidemic eased in the first half of the year, the growth rate of e-commerce sales is gradually slowing down, but the game market does not seem to be affected.

 

According to the latest report on the US game market by NPD Group, total US game spending (including hardware, software and accessories) reached US$4.6 billion in July this year, an increase of 10% compared with the same period last year . This is also the highest monthly revenue reported by NPD in July of all years .

 

Compared to July 2020, hardware spending in the U.S. gaming market surged 98% to $323 million. According to NPD data, this is the highest July for hardware revenue since 2008 and the third-highest July for gaming hardware sales in the history of NPD reports . NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said: " Hardware spending so far this year has increased 50% to $2.7 billion compared to the same period in 2020. "


Gamespot believes that with the release of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at the end of last year , the sharp increase in hardware spending is not surprising, and these products have been in short supply in the market .

 

The PS5 was the top- selling gaming hardware product in the US in July , but the Nintendo Switch had higher sales , mainly due to the PS5 's much higher price . So far this year , the Switch has topped the US console charts in both sales and revenue . The NPD report did not detail the performance of the Series X|S in July, although Microsoft recently announced that the Series X|S platform is the fastest- selling Xbox in Microsoft's history .

 

Finally, U.S. spending on gaming accessories increased 11% to $189 million compared to July 2020, and year-to-date spending on gaming accessories increased 13% to $1.4 billion. The Skyward Sword HD Edition Joy-Con was the top-selling accessory in July, while the white DualSense game controller for the PS5 is the best-selling accessory so far this year.

 

The editor also checked the relevant products on Amazon US and found that Switch , Joy-Con , Series X|S and related game controllers and other accessories are all sold out. It seems that the US game hardware market is indeed hot this year.
