Refund but no return? Two men created 99 accounts to defraud Amazon and were arrested...

If we have to say that there is a platform that truly puts customers first, Amazon is one of them. As Amazon has gradually pushed Bezos to the throne of the world's richest man, more and more criminals have gradually set their sights on Amazon, this "sweet spot".

Recently, two Indian men were arrested for allegedly defrauding the American e-commerce giant.

As we all know, Amazon is an e-commerce platform that treats buyers with all its heart. So the two took advantage of this and created at least 99 accounts on the Amazon website with fake identities .

They linked several bank accounts of different banks to these Amazon accounts which they used to order electronic products, either prepaid or cash on delivery.

However, after receiving the goods, they would sell these products at a low price in Cyber City, Delhi. Then they would contact Amazon and say that they wanted to return these products as they were "defective". As per Amazon's policy, the company would send their courier partners to pick up the defective products and refund the money.

The two men would collude with courier agents, who would fraudulently mark the orders as “received” on a database and allow them to receive refunds through bank accounts linked to their Amazon accounts.

After the arrest of the two, the Uttar Pradesh police froze several bank accounts related to their 99 Amazon accounts. The police said there was still 2.6 million rupees in these frozen bank accounts. The case is currently under further investigation.

This is an extremely simple yet unbelievable scam , and it is unlikely to occur on other Amazon sites.

However, this practice is similar to the "refund without return" that cross-border sellers have encountered before , except that the former uses Amazon's return system to collude with insiders and outsiders , while the latter uses Amazon's return policy that benefits consumers to get sellers' products for free. It's just a pity for the sellers, who lose both money and goods.

Amazon, this e-commerce platform that sellers love and hate. I hope Amazon will treat sellers well and improve the return system as soon as possible. After all, sellers are the real cornerstone of Amazon!
