During the epidemic, food and beverage transactions on the Tokopedia platform surged by 350%!

During the epidemic, residents of various countries were forced to stay at home in isolation, and many people chose to use e-commerce platforms or websites to shop to meet their daily needs, among which the demand for food and beverages surged greatly.

As the most visited e-commerce platform in Indonesia with the largest number of monthly active users, Tokopedia added many new users overnight and its products became more popular. The platform responded quickly, understood consumer preferences, and provided a wide variety of products, providing Indonesian consumers with more choices.

During the pandemic , food and beverages were one of the most popular categories on the Tokopedia platform. Jessica Stephanie Jap, assistant vice president of Tokopedia business, said: "During the pandemic, local art coffee, honey, Korean specialties, and snacks were the most sought-after products."

Jessica Stephanie Jap said that as of the end of 2020, the transaction volume in the food and beverage category has increased more than three times due to Tokopedia Nyam and other initiatives. Compared with before the epidemic, the number of ready-to-eat food suppliers also increased nearly three times during December 2020, and the sales volume of ready-made foods also increased by more than 3.5 times.

For merchants, Tokopedia is more like a ship during the pandemic, giving them a new dawn. Mad Bagel is a bagel company founded by Prima Hayuningputri (Putri) and Anika Miranti (Nike). During the pandemic, Mad Bagel joined Tokopedia.

Putri said: “Since joining Tokopedia Nyam in July 2020, sales have increased by 270%.

Tokopedia Nyam has provided a lot of help, and many consumers have started to pay attention to their products. Currently, there are as many as 2,000 products sold through Tokopedia Nyam.”

Jessica Stephanie Jap said that in addition to using technology to help food and beverage merchants maintain their business, Tokopedia Nyam also provides consumers with more convenient services, allowing them to receive food and beverages in the shortest possible time without leaving their homes. Jessica Stephanie Jap said that this service will promote the recovery of the national economy together with merchants, businesses and Indonesian residents.

Indonesia's e-commerce market continues to expand, and the industry is developing rapidly. The region still has greater potential to be developed. For cross-border sellers, Indonesia is a "potential stock" that is worth exploring.
