Walmart increases investment in e-commerce, transforms stores into "mini post offices"

Walmart is using 4,000 stores as distribution centers and is now adding package station capabilities to those stores , said its senior vice president of U.S. transportation and delivery.

In a company blog post published on Walmart's website on Tuesday, a senior vice president of Walmart compared the distribution centers to " mini post offices ."

The blog post reads: These parcel stations will help us deliver goods to customers' homes faster by using our private fleet to transport more online orders .

“Packages come from our fulfillment centers and are then transferred to sortation centers or go directly to stores, where they are delivered to customers’ homes via our last-mile delivery network,” the blog post continued.

However, the plan seems to be in its early stages. Walmart's senior vice president said that by the end of this year, Walmart will have more express delivery stations in its stores, "and now many express delivery stations are being put into operation to cope with the busy holiday shopping season."

The senior vice president added: "The delivery stations give customers more time to order a wider variety of items online and receive them the next day. In addition, Walmart's entire logistics process can reduce delivery costs, and we can reinvest the cost savings in optimizing the customer experience."

“Walmart customers rank home delivery as their preferred method of online delivery, and the Post Office is another step we’re taking to meet their needs, and we look forward to hearing their feedback.”

Today, Walmart stores have evolved into more than just a place to shop —it is now an online distribution center and logistics hub, supported by excellent transportation capabilities and last-mile delivery networks.
